CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS - SUFFOLK

The Suffolk City Council met at 7 p.m. Wednesday in council chambers at Suffolk City Hall, 441 Market St. The council meets the first and third Wednesday of every month. The meetings are open to the public. This week's actions include:

Consideration of Suffolk High School Re-use Plan No action

Consideration of an ordinance amending the Chapter 8 of the Code of the City of Suffolk, titled ``Elections,'' by the addition of Section 8-2.1, titled ``Central Absentee Precinct'' Approved, 5-2

An ordinance to appropriate $18,420 of federal funds and $10,978 of state funds received through the property seizure program for drug investigation - Second Reading Approved, 7-0

An ordinance accepting and appropriating a bequest of $3,000 from the estate of Maud Andrews Charles to the city's Animal Control Division - Second Reading Approved, 7-0

An ordinance accepting and appropriating a grant award of $750 from the Virginia Department of Emergency Services for purchase of radiological emergency preparedness program equipment - Second Reading Approved, 7-0

An ordinance amending Article II, Section 15-39 of Chapter 15 of the Code of the City of Suffolk relating to business license tax - Second Reading Approved, 7-0

An ordinance authorizing the application for, and acceptance of, the Hazardous Materials Transportation Uniform Safety Act Planning Grant; and appropriating funds to be received as amended - First Reading Approved, 7-0

A resolution of support and recognition for contributions made by the Rev. Melvin R. Boone to the development of the Virginia Seminary Approved, 7-0
