Granville Ashton Starke, 99, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 1996, in Riverside Regional Convalescent Center, Newport News.
Mr. Starke, a native of Hanover County, was a retired farmer. He was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, and a member of the American Legion, George F. Dashiell Post (NU)49, Smithfield. Mr. Starke was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War I, and the widower of Emma Baker Starke.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Walnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Fred Skaggs and Dr. Donald R. Rhoton officiating. The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, and suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Walnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 96, Mechanicsville, Va. 23111 or the Smithfield Baptist Church Building Fund, 100 Wainwright Drive, Smithfield, Va. 23430.
