Virginia Matthews Smith, 72, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 1996, in the home of her daughter, Deborah Shook of Scottsville, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Smith. Born in Little Rock, Ark., she was the daughter of George and Omega Matthews. Mrs. Smith had lived in Virginia Beach for 27 years and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Gideon Society, and was active in the A.R.E.
Survivors include another daughter, Melissa Hawley-Norris of Mendocino, Calif.; two sisters, Jerine May of Baton Rouge, La., and June Stuckey of Lafayette, Ind.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in First Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach, at 3 p.m. Sunday. Thacker Brothers Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
