Thomas Earl Acey, 83, died Aug. 11, 1996.
A native of Mathews County, Mr. Acey lived in Norfolk since 1917. He worked for Addington-Beaman Lumber Co. for 49 years, retiring in 1984. Mr. Acey was a dedicated member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as music director from 1948 until 1973, chairman of the Board of Trustees and teacher of the Daniel Moore Class. He also founded the United Methodist Men's Chorus. Mr. Acey was the widower of Lucille S. Acey.
He is survived by a brother, Randolph I. Acey of Virginia Beach; a son, Thomas E. Acey Jr. of Safety Harbor, Fla.; a daughter, Peggy A. Elliott of Norfolk; a stepdaughter, Nancy S. Hoke of Raleigh, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
Friends are invited to join the family in celebrating Mr. Acey's life at a memorial service to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Memorial Fund, Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 288 E. Little Creek Rd. Norfolk, Va. 23505.
