VIVIAN J. GASKINS

Vivian Johnson Gaskins, 83, of White Oak Drive and former longtime resident of the Simonsdale section of Portsmouth, died Aug. 12, 1996, in Maryview Nursing Care Center.

A native of Plainview, Texas, she was the widow of Cecil Rufus Gaskins and a member of Smithfield Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Carolee Crafton of Suffolk; two sons, Fred O. Gaskins of Newport News, Cecil Ronald Gaskins of Suffolk; three sisters, Lorraine Johnson Poarch of Dallas, Texas, Rose Lee Boerner of Escondido, Calif., Marye Alta Polk of Austin, Texas; two brothers, A.O. Johnson of Austin and John B. Johnson of Garden Grove, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert D. Gaskins.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Smithfield Church of the Nazarene by Pastor Rueggy Copen. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Suffolk. Contributions may be made to Smithfield Church of the Nazarene, 13390 Great Spring Road, Smithfield, Va. 23430.
