Bruce Norwood Austin Sr., 74, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 1996, at a Hatteras clinic.
Mr. Austin, a native of Hatteras, was a retired Merchant Marine, NMU and a commercial fisherman. He was a member of Hatteras United Methodist Church, VFW Post (NU)10348 and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Army. Mr. Austin was the son of the late Russell J. Austin and the late Annie O'Neil Austin and the husband of Marian Burrus Austin of the home.
Besides his wife, Mr. Austin is survived by two daughters, Harriet A. Waterfield of Manteo, N.C., Theresa A. Dalton of Frisco, N.C.; a son, Bruce Austin Jr. of Greenville, N.C.; a brother, Hilton Austin of St. Augustine, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at the Hatteras United Methodist Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Huskins and the Rev. Don Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Quidley Cemetery, Buxton, N.C. The family will receive friends at Twiford's Island Chapel, Hatteras, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
