Dare County sheriff's deputy W. Kevin Duprey will be presented the Silver Lifesaving Medal at 10:30 a.m. at the Coast Guard Base in Buxton.
Last August, Duprey rescued a swimmer in distress from the rough surf along Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. He found a swimmer struggling in the surf about 300 yards from the beach. Borrowing a surf board from a bystander, he entered the water and assisted the swimmer onto the beach.
Vice Admiral Kent Williams, Commander of the Fifth District, will make the Lifesaving Medal presentation. by CNB
