The 70th annual Budweiser Hampton Cup Regatta Summer Nationals will take place today through Sunday on Mill Creek.
Nine classes of hydroplanes and runabouts - 1.5 Litre, 2.5 Litre, Super Stock, 2.5 Litre Modified, Jersey Speed Skiff, National Modified, 5 Litre, Grand National and K Racing Runabout - will run qualifying heats today and Saturday, with final heats Sunday. The 1 1/4-mile course has been approved by the American Powerboat Association for world records.
Six former national champions fill out the field, which draws participants from throughout the East Coast and Midwest.
The races are sanctioned by the APA and the Virginia Boat Racing Association. Admission is free for all sessions, which run from noon to 6 p.m. by CNB
