ARTS
Carolyn Laws was named facility manager for Willett Hall and assistant director of Ports Events, the management company for Willett Hall. Previously, she was director of marketing and professional services for the Tidewater Associaton of Realtors.
ARCHITECTURE
Armond G. Reich and Joanna Hall were named architects with Hanbury Evans Newill Vlattas in Norfolk. Reich works in the federal design studio and most recently worked for Bondurant Associates in Portsmouth. Hall will work in the academic design studio.
ADVERTISING
James G. Mott was named creative director at Ad-Ventures Advertising in Virginia Beach. Prior to joining the company, he operated Mottworks Creative, a creative services company in Virginia Beach.
A. Bruce Williams was named vice president of marketing and development at the Miles Agency, a niche marketing and public relations firm in Virginia Beach. Prior to this, he was customer service manager/office operations for Cox Communications in Virginia Beach.BANKING Robert M. Drake was elected vice president of Wachovia Bank of North Carolina in Norfolk. He is a loan officer in the Virginia commercial mortgage group. He formerly worked for the bank in Greensboro, N.C., in regional mortgage loan administration.
ENGINEERING
R. Glenn Capps was named a principal with Hickman-Ambrose, a consulting engineering firm specializing in mechanical and electrical systems in Chesapeake. He was senior director for school plant facilities with Norfolk Public Schools.
LAW
R. John Barrett, a partner with Vandeventer, Black, Meredith & Martin in Norfolk, was appointed port director for 1996 for the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute. He was also appointed to its board of directors for 1997. The institute is an organization that provides a forum for the discussion of admiralty and maritime law.
Charles V. McPhillips, a partner with Kaufman & Canoles, was elected chairman of the International Practice Section of the Virginia State Bar for 1995-1996.
And, Stephen E. Noona, also a partner with Kaufman & Canoles, was elected to the board of governors for the Intellectual Property Law Section of the Virginia State Bar.
MUSEUM
Allen Clark was promoted to exhibits manager at Nauticus. In his new position, he will book and cultivate traveling exhibits, manage the guest relations staff, work to develop permanent exhibits at Nauticus and supervise the technological aspects of the exhibitory. He was the assistant technical systems manager.
REAL ESTATE
Susan Brimo-Cox was promoted to director of public relations at Rose & Krueth Realty Corp., Virginia Beach. Prior to this, she was a public relations specialist. She has been with the company since 1990.
SHIPBUILDING
Marc Pelaez was named vice president of engineering at Newport News Shipbuilding. He joins the shipyard after serving in the Navy for nearly 30 years. He retired this year as a rear admiral.
