The Better Business Bureau of Greater Hampton Roads says a company that promises a computer work-at-home opportunity, in reality is selling computer disketts. Dillon Group, based in Redondo Beach, Calif., has advertised in help wanted sections offering computer work for a $68 fee.

According to a report prepared by the Colton, (Ca.) BBB, the firm has an unsatisfactory business performance record based on deceptive and misleading advertising practices, as well as failure to respond to complaints regarding difficulty in obtaining refunds.

Linda Candler with the Hampton Roads BBB said the company is listed on the Internet, and operates under the name Digital Resources.

Candler said it had more than 30 inquiries in July and four so far this month, a total of 91 for the year, from local consumers regarding the company's offers. ``I hope people won't be so quick to send in their $68,'' she said.

The Corner Shops, a shopping center on Warwick Boulevard in Newport News, has been sold to The Commonwealth Company, a Hampton-based property management and development firm.

Harvey E. Weinstein, president of The Commonwealth Company, said the shopping center, previously owned by Virginia Beach Federal Savings Bank, was purchased in June for $1 million. Virginia Beach Federal had acquired the property in 1991 for $1.8 million after a default on a loan.

Weinstein said the center will be completely refurbished and updated, and the name will change to the Commonwealth Center.

Bay Mortgage Co. has opened operations at 168 Business Park Drive, Suite 103 in Virginia Beach. Robert A. Resh, formerly a branch manager with FT Mortgage Co., is president, and Robert J. Resh, formerly a site manager with Terry Peterson Residential Companies, is vice president.

Orion Food Systems has established operations at the newly opened Chimney Hill Exxon at the corner of Rosemont and Holland Roads in Virginia Beach. The food service will offer Hot Stuff pizza, Eddie Peppers Mexican food and Cinnamon Street rolls.

Stroud, Pence and Associates Ltd., a structural engineering firm in Virginia Beach, has opened a branch office in Raleigh, N.C. David W. Mykins, a principal with the firm, has relocated to Raleigh to manage the branch operations.

CI Travel has opened its first travel service in Williamsburg at 5601 Richmond Road. The agency will offer a full range of travel services including airline tickets, cruise and vacation packages, hotel and car rental reservations and travel insurance.
