CAROLYN O. NISSEN

Carolyn O. Nissen of Lakewood Plaza, died Aug. 17, 1996 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Nissen was born in Darlington, S.C., and was the widow of Charles William ``Bill'' Nissen Jr. She was retired from civil service as a civilian personnel officer. She was a lifelong member of Coleman Place Presbyterian Church, where she was past historian, a member of the Ladies Bible Class and was instrumental in developing the church library, where she served as past librarian. She was a member of Lakewood Plaza Ladies Social Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn N. Carter of Norfolk; a son, Charles W. Nissen III of Virginia Beach; a sister, Margaret O. Crandall of Greenfield, Mass.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Coleman Place Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Larry Miles. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at Smith & Williams Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today for visitation and all other times at the daughter's home.
