William Everett Thomas Sr., 80, died Aug. 18, 1996.
He was a native of Gloucester and a member of Gloucester Point Baptist Church. He retired in 1978 from the Newport News Shipyard. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sylvia T. Walker.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice Mae Thomas; two sons, William E. Thomas Jr and his wife Mary Susan of Portsmouth, and James D. Thomas and his wife Joyce B. of Yorktown; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Braxton Aliport. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Abingdon Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 247, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062.
