William McGill Laird, 77, died Aug. 21, 1996, at his residence.
Born in Ann Arbor, Mich., Mr. Laird retired as a U.S. Navy commander after 21 years service. Also he was a retired schoolteacher of Norfolk Public Schools after 17 years service. He was a member of Bayside Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis Beachcombers and Retired Officers Association. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary B. Laird; a daughter, Nancy L. Bagley of Virginia Beach; two brothers, John R. Laird of Ann Arbor, Joseph I. Laird of Valley Forge, Pa.; four grandchildren, James Bagley, Christopher Bagley, Amanda Bagley, all of Virginia Beach, Susan Bagley of Burke, Va.; a great-granddaughter, Kati Bagley of Virginia Beach.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, by the Rev. Richard J. Keever. Burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the At-Home Care Hospice, 3386 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452 or the American Cancer Society.
