Big cobia and flounder in the lower Chesapeake Bay and terrific white marlin off the coast provided much of the angling action of the past week.
The week's heavyweight cobia weighed 86 pounds and was pulled from waters along the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel by Amos H. Chang of Virginia Beach on the boat Quincy.
The heaviest reported flounder went 7 3/4 pounds and also came from bridge-tunnel waters. It was caught by Donald Daugherty of Virginia Beach on the Pam Pam.
The hottest white marlin action was in the vicinity of the Cigar seamount, an area fished by boats from Virginia Beach and Oregon Inlet, near Nags Head. Catches of four to six per boat were not unusual, although action slowed Sunday.
