JAY E. MURPHY

Jay Eugene Murphy, 75, died Monday Aug. 26, 1996, at his residence.

Mr. Murphy was born in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. He was a retired air traffic controller administrator and a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Mr. Murphy was also a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force, having served 21 years and logging more than 6700 flying hours. He was in active service during Vietnam, Korean War, and during World War II, where he had flown 21 combat missions over Germany.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Spicey Hoggard Murphy of the home; a daughter, Susan Bragdon of Panama City, Fla.; three sons, Michael E. Murphy of Richmond, Dr. Sam Murphy of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Christopher J. Murphy of Geneva, Ill.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church by Father Terrence Collins. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association/NC Affiliate, P.O. Box 4390, Chapel Hill, N.C. 27515. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is in charge of arrangements.
