TICKETS ON SALE FOR SOME EVENTS AT PEANUT FEST

Peanut Fest, one of the region's biggest parties, is several weeks off, but tickets are on sale for some events, and registration is open for others.

Version 19 of the celebration of Suffolk's agricultural heritage will be held from Oct. 10 to 13, with most events - including a concert by country music star Martina McBride - at the Municipal Airport, just off U.S. Route 13.

Ticketed events are:

Queen's Luncheon and Fashion Show: Noon, Oct. 3, National Guard Armory, $12. Call Margaret Smith, 539-0409, or page Leah Powell, 626-6614. The Pilot Club of Suffolk Inc. is sponsor.

Peanut Fest dance: 9 p.m. Oct. 5, also at the armory, $20. Country music by 32 South. Call Kathy Russell at 539-7937. The Junior Volunteer Service Corps is sponsor.

Peanut Fest Prayer Breakfast: 7 a.m. Oct. 9, at Holiday Inn, $15. Speaker will be Donna Tyson, former radio and television talk show host. Call Gail Williams, 934-0725. Holiday Inn and Nansemond River Pilot Club are sponsors.

Suffolk Ruritan Club Shrimp Feast: from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10, at the airport, $20. Entertainment by Hampton Roads groups. Call Raleigh Isaacs, 539-5119.

Registration is open for these events:

Peanut Fest Invitational Softball Tournament, 8 a.m. Sept. 30, $125 per team. Call Jerry Clark, 934-3655, or Peanut Fest office, 539-6751.

Peanut Fest 5-K Run, 5 p.m. Oct. 5, $8 in advance; $10 at race. The Tidewater Striders Event starts and finishes at the Municipal Center. Call Tim Davenport, 925-6371.

Nationwide Demolition Derby, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11, in the Peanut Fest arena, $20. Forms available at the fest office, on the second floor of Crestar Bank on Main Street, or call 539-6751. Prizes total $1,000. by CNB
