Jack Walter Mathena Sr., 67, of 131 Bent Creek Road, died Monday, Aug. 26, 1996, at his residence.
Mr. Mathena was born June 3, 1929 in Bluefield, W.Va., the son of Clarence A. Mathena and Margaret Mathena. He was married to Kiyo T. Mathena of the residence, who survives. Mr. Mathena was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was employed by the Naval Air Station, Norfolk, in which he worked as an aircraft mechanic. He was a member of the Masons in Virginia Beach.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Tommy D. Mathena and Ronnie J. Mathena, both of Danville, Jack W. Mathena Jr. of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Donna A. Cason of Virginia Beach; a brother, Rev. Clarence Arthur Mathena Jr. and a sister, Betty Austin, both of Portsmouth; and seven grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The Rev. Jack Heinsohn will be conducting the service. Townes Funeral Home is in charge of the service.
