While Hurricane Edouard's recent flirtation caused many planned fishing trips to be scrubbed, a few anglers recorded some impressive hauls before and after the blow.
Albert Jones of Virginia Beach landed the year's first big Virginia spot, a 17-ounce catch made Monday. He was fishing from the shoreline at Rudee Inlet and earned a citation award from the Virginia Salt Water Fishing Tournament.
Andrew Compton of Hiddenfield, N.J., took the kingfish lead in the contest with a 1-pound, 14-ounce fish caught on the Post Time off the Eastern Shore.
White marlin action was hot in the vicinity of the Cigar seamount just before the blow. The area is fished by boats from Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach and Oregon Inlet, near Nags Head, N.C.
However, most offshore boats were unable to sail from Thursday through Monday because of rough seas kicked up by Edouard.
The storm forced a one-week delay in the annual Virginia Beach Marlin Tournament, rescheduled for Saturday and Sunday. by CNB
