Eva Rogers Gard, 96, of the 9500 block of 15th Bay St., left this earth to be with her lord, Thursday the fifth day of September, 1996.
She was the widow of Jessie T. Gard and the daughter of the late James B. Rogers and Amy R. Wright. She was born in Duck, N.C., in April 1900 and was preceded in death by her only son, Jesse Colon Gard and her two sisters, Ellen R. Scarborough and Pearl W. Gard. She was a member of the Little Creek Congregational Methodist Church.
Survivors include her great-niece, Pat Bray and her husband, James, and their two daughters, Amy and Sara; her great-nephew, Michael L. Nash and his two children, Eva and Charlie; nieces and nephews, James Scarborough of Corolla, Ray Scarborough of Duck, Blanche Utz of Duck, Melba Perry of Kitty Hawk, Marleen Ward of Manns Harbor; and a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins; and her lifelong friend and companion of recent years, Esther B. Russell.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Duck United Methodist Church by the Rev. David Clift. Burial will follow in the Austin Cemetery, Kitty Hawk, N.C. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Twiford Colonial Chapel, Great Bridge, Chesapeake and other times at the residence.
