On a blustery Friday night at Norview's Chittum Field, Granby blew by Princess Anne 18-2 in a non-district game thanks to a couple of big plays.
The Comets, who lost 21-7 last week to Cox, evened their record at 1-1.
``We didn't want to feel like we did last week,'' said sophomore quarterback Dexter Reid. ``We just tried to control the ball the whole way.''
Reid completed only 1 of 6 pass attempts, but Deonte Hundley made it count. Hundley was alone in the end zone when he caught Reid's 31-yard spiral that put the Comets up 12-0.
Granby earned its first points when the Cavaliers (0-1) bobbled a punt on their opening possession, and the Comets recovered at the Princess Anne 1-yard line. Reid fell forward on the next play for the score.
Comets halfback Alex Sunkins led all rushers with 15 carries for 63 yards. He scored the Comets' final touchdown on a 7-yard run to end the third quarter.
And they could have scored again, but an illegal shift penalty nullified a 72-yard Reid-to-Hundley touchdown.
``I thought we executed a little better this week,'' said Comets coach Dave Hudak. ``People don't think we can pass, but I think we surprised some people. Reid is coming along.''
The Cavaliers' only points came on a safety with 3:36 remaining when Marcel Howard sacked Reid.
The Granby defense held Princess Anne to one first down in the first half and 41 yards rushing total. Undisturbed by the wind, Cavaliers quarterback Aaron Mitchell went 4 for 13 for 122 yards, but was sacked three times, twice by James Boddie.
The loss spoiled the debut of Princess Anne coach Jeff Ballance. by CNB
