GARY L. MADDOX JR.

Gary L. Maddox Jr., of Route 2 and formerly of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 1996, at his residence. He was the husband of Karen I. Maddox.

Born on Feb. 5, 1924, he was a son of the late Gary L. Maddox Sr. and Grace S. Maddox. He served with the 29th Infantry Division, 121st Combat Engineers and 5th Ranger Battalion in World War II.

He was an operating engineer for 22 years, before going to work for the U.S. Government Civil Service Commission. He retired in 1984 from the Naval Aircraft Rework Facility, where he worked as an Ordnance Aircraft System mechanic on jet fighter planes. He was a licensed pilot of single and twin engine aircraft, land and seaplanes. He took the degrees of the Blue Lodge (NU)252 in Chesapeake, Scottish Rite Bodies of Norfolk and the Khedive Temple in 1975, where he became a 32nd degree Mason. He was a life member of the NRA and a member of the American Motorcycle Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a host of cousins.

Funeral service with Masonic Rites will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in Robinson Funeral Home with visitation following until 8:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the residence at other times. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. Those wishing to make memorials, consider the Shriners Burn Center.
