William Oscar Bright Sr., 80, died Sept. 9, 1996, in Chesapeake.
Born in Gloucester County, Va., he was a retired ship surveyor for Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Mr. Bright was a charter member of Norview Presbyterian Church, Norfolk.
Survivors include his wife, Auline M. Bright; two sons, William Oscar Bright Jr. of Magnolia, Texas, Martin E. Bright of Portsmouth; a sister, Susan B. Pratt of Virginia Beach; a brother, Melvin W. Bright of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, William Oscar Bright III of Houston, Texas, Carol B. VanDyke of Montgomery, Texas; three great-grandchildren, William Oscar ``Cody'' Bright IV of San Antonio, Texas, Maghan Oline Bright of San Antonio and Robert Michael VanDyke of Montgomery, Texas.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Smith and William Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
