A man whose badly decomposed body was found Friday afternoon along westbound Interstate 264 near Effingham Street has been identified as Waverly L. Cameron Jr. of Portsmouth.
State police spokeswoman Tammy Van Dame said Cameron, 22, was last seen Aug. 27 in the Ida Barbour section of the city wearing a plaid shirt and safari shorts. He went by the nicknames ``Pop-pop'' and ``Red.''
The body was found on an embankment about 24 feet from the road at the Effingham Street interchange. Police estimated the body had been there two weeks, Van Dame said.
Anyone with information is asked to call senior special agent Jim Huddle or the state police bureau of criminal investigations at 424-6850.
