WILLIAM D. ALLRED

William David Allred, former Texas state legislator, college journalism professor, minister and the son of a former Texas governor, died Sunday morning in his home in Williamsburg. He was 62.

Mr. Allred was born in Austin, Texas, and he spent 14 years in the Texas State House of Representatives, serving the citizens of his beloved native state. Most recently, Mr. Allred was retired from his position as a journalism professor at Hampton University.

Mr. Allred is survived by his wife, Patricia Lee (Moyer) Allred, who works as a teacher of visually handicapped children for the Gloucester school system. Mr. Allred is also survived by his three children, Rebecca Lee Allred Bartley, who lives in Norfolk, James Moyer Allred, who lives in Richmond and Stephen D. Allred, who lives in Charlotte, N.C., and his grandchildren, Elijah Alejandro Allred and Addrianna Maria Allred.

A visitation will be held at Bucktrout Funeral Home from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and services will be at Olive Branch Christian Church in Norge, Va., beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday.
