A woman being arrested by police on an emergency custody order kicked the police car door open, striking the officer in the nose Tuesday night.
The officer, Detective C.M. Gonzalez, was taken to Obici Hospital, where he had seven stitches in his nose and then was released, police spokesman Mike Simpkins said.
The 30-year-old woman faces a charge of felonious assault on a police officer.
Gonzalez had picked up the woman about 8 p.m. at a gas station in the 200 block of Carolina Road. He put her in his cruiser, then she reared back in the seat and kicked the door with both feet, police said. The officer was hit on the bridge of his nose.
