Thelma Gurganus Melton, 83, of the 900 block of Baugher Ave., died Friday Sept. 13, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
A native of Jacksonville, N.C., she was the widow of Hugh Melton. Mrs. Melton was a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Norris of Richmond, Va., Yvonne Moore of Chesapeake; three sons, Phillip Melton of Norfolk, Charles Melton of Windsor, Va., James Melton of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Afterwards, she will be sent to Morris Funeral Home, Asheville, N.C., for services and burial.
