David George Jones, 54, died Sept. 13, 1996, in Portsmouth.
Born in Portsmouth, Mr. Jones was the self-employed owner of Parkside Cleaners. He was a member of the Elizabeth River Yacht Club and the Portsmouth Boat Club. He had a passion for sailing and was a recipient of a first place trophy in the 1995 Cock Island Race.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori J. Osborne of Richmond, Va., Jill Jones of Virginia Beach; a sister, Marsha Curry of Portsmouth; a brother, Horace ``Dick'' Jones of Birmingham, Ala.; a granddaughter, Jade Schaible of Virginia Beach; two nieces, Holly Jones of Birmingham, Carrie Jones of Nashville, Tenn.; two nephews, Jeff Curry of Portsmouth, Stephen Jones of Birmingham; a special friend, Margaret Turner and his longtime friend and business associate, Junius Wooden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence Jones and Horace Jones.
A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Snellings Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Bingham. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers.
