Mrs. Cleo Joyner Roberts, 79, of the 800 block of 2nd Ave., died Sept. 20, 1996, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital.
A native of Suffolk, she was a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem Christian Church UCC, where she was a deaconess and a member of the Pastor's Aide.
She was the widow of James O. Roberts Sr. and was also predeceased by her parents, Hyman L. and Sarah Jones Joyner.
She is survived by four daughters, Jacqueline R. Scott, Rudean R. Harrell, both of Suffolk, Ava R. Wilson of Chesapeake, and Joyce R. Fitzgerald of Virginia Beach; a son, James O. Roberts Jr. of Belmont Shore, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Michael Hawk, Aleta H. Skeeter, Tamera Scott, Brian Keith Wilson, Christopher Leo Harrell, Kandi Harrell, Jasmine Scott, Austin James Fitzgerald, Ross Joyner Fitzgerald, Desmond Rene Roberts, Travis R. Fitzgerald and Justin J. Fitzgerald; five great-grandchildren, Michael T. Hawk, Shaquira Hawk, Pernell Scott, RaKeem Scott, Christopher L. Harrell; a sister, Kathleen King and a devoted friend, John L. Evans.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Bethlehem Christian Church UCC, 312 Bute Street, Suffolk, by the Rev. Emanuel Myrick. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Park Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is in charge.
