WAYLAND ELEY

Wayland Eley, 55, of the 2800 block of Grandy Ave., died Sept. 23, 1996, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.

He was a firefighter for the City of Norfolk for 28 years and a U.S. Army veteran. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Moses and Mazie Ausby Eley.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda B. Cooper of Virginia Beach; sister, Mazie Hines of Riverdale, Md.; two brothers, Moses Eley Jr. of Petersburg, Va., Reginald E. Eley of Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren, Chantiel Cooper, Taylor Cooper; an aunt, Etta B. Drake; several co-workers and close friends, among them Archie Pugh and Larry Harris.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Clinton Brown Sr. in Riddick Funeral Service Chapel. Burial with be in Woodland Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Thursday from 2 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family is requesting that friends will join them at Fire Station (NU)7, 1211 W. 43rd St., Norfolk for the Final Call ceremony and procession to the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. Friday.
