Lawrence Burgess Wilson, 81, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 1996, at his residence.
He was a native of Norfolk. Mr. Wilson served as chief of Norfolk City Fire Department from 1969 until his retirement in September 1974. He was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church in Elizabeth City, N.C.
Mr. Wilson was the son of the late Harry Frank Wilson Sr. and Lillian Lassiter Wilson and the husband of Ora Eugenia Buchanan Wilson, of the home.
Besides his wife, Mr. Wilson is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Joan) Waddington of Elizabeth City; a granddaughter, Mrs. Danny (Natalie) Brothers; a grandson, Sgt. 1st Class Jack L. and Renee Waddington; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, by his brother-in-law, the Rev. Henry Lancaster and the Rev. Dr. Arthur Wilt. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
