Both Camden County High School and Currituck County High School continued to roll this past weekend on the gridirons - and both football teams used several weapons to pull off their victories.
Camden County amassed 562 total yards of offense en route to a 40-12 win over Chocowinity.
The Bruins mixed up their option offense. Joel Taylor led the Bruins' running attack with 197 yards on 14 carries and scored a touchdown. Quarterback Brian Gamet rushed for 113 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. Gamet continues to impress in passing situations. He completed nine of 12 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
The margin of victory could have been higher. Camden fumbled twice in the first half inside Chocowinity's 5-yard line.
``They were in a bind with our option. And that makes it easier to throw the ball deep,'' Camden coach Scott Jones said.
Keenon Walker had a 48-yard TD reception and Ryan Allen caught five passes for 56 yards for Camden (3-1).
Although Chocowinity running back Benny Mackey rushed for 201 yards on 21 carries, the Camden defense kept most of that yardage at midfield.
``We bent. But we didn't break,'' Jones said. ``He gained most of his yardage between the 30s.''
Currituck, which has been passing much more this season, jumped out to a 22-8 halftime lead and then burned up the clock with its patented running game in the second half.
The Knights dumped Northampton West, 48-22.
Christian Burton rushed for 165 yards on 11 carries and scored three touchdowns, including runs of 44 and 43 yards. Chris Patterson rushed for 84 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. One of Patterson's touchdowns went 48 yards.
Quarterback Jesse Jones was 6-for-16 for 99 yards. And wide receivers Ken Simmons and Brian Willoughby also completed option passes. by CNB
