Hercules Watson, 74, passed on Sept. 28, 1996, in James River Convalescent Center.
Mr. Watson was born in Sumton, S.C., and lived in Baltimore for many years. He resided in Newport News for the past 11 years and retired from Maryland News as a delivery driver of books and magazines. While residing in Baltimore, Mr. Watson was a member of Cornerstone Church of Christ, where he served as an usher and trustee. Upon relocating to Newport News, he joined First Baptist Church, Jefferson Park. By that time, his vision had declined, preventing active organization membership.
Mr. Watson was predeceased by his parents, Ellison and Lizzie Ricks, as well as a daughter, Mary Arrington;
Survivors include his loving wife, Alice Watson; a son and daughter-in-law, Ellison and Cynthia Ricks of Forestville, Md.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church, Jefferson Park, by the Rev. W.B. Schiele. The body will be placed in the church by 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Ricks Cemetery, Sedley, Va. Viewing will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Cooke Brothers Funeral Chapel.
