Va. Power plants among leaders in low-cost energy

Virginia Power said its two nuclear-powered generating plants were among the lowest-cost producers of electricity last year in a ranking of U.S. power plants by the Utility Data Institute. Virginia Power's North Anna plant, northwest of Richmond, was for the second straight year the lowest-cost nuclear plant among 72 surveyed, producing electricity at $11.16 per megawatt hour in 1995. The Surry plant finished 11th on the same list, up from 12th in 1994, generating electricity at $15.70 per megawatt hour. (Staff) by CNB
