ALTER M. TAPLIN

Alter M. Taplin, 73, died Sept. 30, 1996, in a Norfolk nursing home.

Born in Newport News, Va., she was a volunteer at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters. Mrs. Taplin taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred H. Taplin; two daughters, Diana Gail Wiehe of Holly, Mich., Sandra T. Donahue of Moyock, N.C.; a son, Jerry E. Wood of Chesapeake; a sister, Mildred Munce of Parkridge, Ill., Catherine Hatcher of Middleton, Wis.; a brother, Thomas C. Hatfield of Chesapeake; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fellowship Baptist Church by Pastor Donald O'Dey. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church in her memory.
