Mamie Ballard Hayes, 82, of the 1500 block of Darren Circle, died Sept. 30, 1996, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.
A native of Gates, N.C., Mrs. Hayes was a retired nurse from Brooklyn State Hospital with 20 years service. She was the widow of Joseph G. Hayes.
Survivors include her daughters, Iris H. Hale of Virginia Beach and JoAnn Hayes of Portsmouth; a sister, Wilhemina King of Norfolk; three grandchildren, Tara Hayes, Maiya Hayes and Amanda Hayes, all of Portsmouth; son-in-law, Leslie A. Hale of Virginia Beach; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth Chapel, by the Rev. F.R. Williams. Burial will be in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Gates. Viewing at the funeral home will begin at noon today.
