A man who had been picked up by a taxi late Tuesday allegedly tried to rob the driver at gunpoint. He was shot by the taxi driver, who then drove him to a hospital, police said.
The shooting victim, Larry D. Parrish Jr. of the 200 block of North Lloyd Street, was in serious condition in the intensive care unit of Obici Hospital Wednesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Parrish, 22, and another man were picked up by a United Taxi cab in the 200 block of Holladay Street, said police spokesman Mike Simpkins.
Parrish allegedly pulled a revolver on the driver, James E. Ridley, at Railroad Avenue and Capitol Street about 11:40 p.m., he said.
Ridley shot the suspect in the left side of the chest with a .38-caliber handgun, Simpkins said. The other suspect fled and is still at large.
Warrants are on file for Parrish's arrest. An investigation is continuing.
