FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

National Fire Prevention Week takes place Oct. 6-12. The 1996 theme is ``Let's Hear It for Fire Safety - Test Your Detectors.''

The Chesapeake Fire Prevention and Emergency Services Division of the Chesapeake Fire Department will conduct several programs in schools and for the public.

Fire inspector Robin C. ``Bob'' Anderson said Chesapeake firefighters will visit Chesapeake elementary schools during the week, offering hand-outs and fire prevention safety tips focusing on this year's theme.

In addition, Anderson said, his department will man informational displays at Chesapeake Square Mall Oct. 10-12.

On Oct. 12 at noon, Greenbrier Mall will play host to Lunch with Sparky the Fire Dog. The free event is open to children and their parents. Lunch will be served, kids and their parents will receive free fire safety hand-outs and stickers.
