Jack Franklin Cooper Sr., 72, died Oct. 4, 1996, in his home.
Mr. Cooper was born April 30, 1924, in Greenville, S.C., and was a Navy veteran. He was a retired equipment supervisor for Southampton Correctional and was predeceased by his father, Alfred A. Cooper, and his mother, Mattie Hall Cooper. He attended Ascension Lutheran Church, Danville, and was a former member of the Portsmouth Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Johnson Cooper; his son, Jack F. Cooper Jr. of Suffolk; daughters, Diane C. Games of Chesapeake, Elaine Norman of Gloucester, Paula Epperson-Schaeffer of Goldsboro, N.C., M. Borghild Silano of Chesapeake; a brother, John A. Cooper of Greenville, N.C.; granddaughters, Holly Sabaka, Heather Epperson, Christy Epperson, Lindsey Norman, Bridgette Silano; grandsons, Jeffery Lee Cooper and Ralph Epperson-Schaeffer; and two great-granddaughters.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Boston, Va., by the Rev. George Gravitt. Visitation will be in Brooks Funeral Home, South Boston, from 4 to 5 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Halifax County Rescue Squad, Harmony United Methodist Church or the YMCA.
