IN SPITE OF ROUGH WINDS, THE FISH WERE STILL BITING

Although seas were fairly rough and winds gusty along the Dare Coast Friday, pier anglers caught a mixture of fish.

On Kitty Hawk Pier, a few croakers, spot and sea mullet were taken during the day.

Avalon Pier reported a few puppy drum landed.

Several black drum, tailor blues and an 8-pound puppy drum were caught by anglers on Nags Head Fishing Pier.

Fair numbers of small bluefish, a few croakers and a 6-pound puppy drum were landed from Jennette's Pier during the afternoon after a very slow morning.

Little action was reported by fishermen on Outer Banks Pier.

On Hatteras Island, anglers on Rodanthe Pier caught bluefish and puppy drum steadily throughout the morning. Several gray trout and puppy drum were landed during the afternoon.

No action was reported from Avon Pier during the morning. A few blues and one puppy drum were taken late in the afternoon.

Fishermen on Frisco Pier caught scattered bluefish, gray trout, croakers, sea mullet, pompano and flounder, mainly during the afternoon.

Rough seas kept fishing at a minimum in the surf along the northern beaches.

Around Oregon Inlet, a few blues and bottom fish were taken.

Fishing was slow along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton.

At Cape Point, some 7- to 8-pound puppy drum and a few stripers were beached. Small flounders were landed along the beach south of Cape Point.

A few boats out of Oregon Inlet fishing center trolled in the sound, landing a few bluefish.

No offshore trips were run off Oregon Inlet or Hatteras due to windy conditions and high seas.

The water temperature was 60 degrees Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 70 degrees at the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
