ELTON W. SMITHSON

Elton Winson Smithson, 71, of Berry Hill Road, died Oct. 5, 1996, at Emporia.

He was born in Hickory, son of John and Ruby Smithson. A World War II veteran, he served as a paratrooper in the Co. E, 11th Airborne.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Smithson of South Boston; a daughter, Janice Dubois of Virginia Beach; a son, Elton Gene Smithson of South Boston; his mother, Ruby Smithson of Chesapeake; three brothers, Melvin Smithson, Edgar Smithson and Clyde Smithson, all of Chesapeake; and four grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Powell Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Heim. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and other times at their home, 808-A Berry Hill Road.
