Francis Scott Bazemore, 79, of the 200 block of Sir Oliver Road, died on Saturday, Oct. 5, 1996.
A native of Bertie County, N.C., he was the son of the late Janie Bynum Bazemore and Richard Scott Bazemore. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Bazemore came to Norfolk in the 1930s and worked for Monsanto Chemical Company. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Battle of Normandy. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 4 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3160, both of Norfolk. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Supply Center after 33 years of service.
Mr. Bazemore enjoyed yearly reunions held in Emporia for the 29th Division, 116th Infantry, Company M.
Mr. Bazemore is survived by his wife, Dorcas Beck Bazemore; a daughter, Frances Ann Bazemore Button; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Beck Vandenburg; a stepson, William James Beck; and five grandchildren, Charles James Smyth III, Jeremy Francis Smyth, Kristin Renee Button, T. Allen Bell Jr. and Brenda Beck Lich. Mr. Bazemore was also survived by a sister, Rosa Bazemore Myers and a large number of nephews and nieces.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
