The Rev. William Jackson Duvall, 89, of the 700 block of Greentree Circle, died Oct. 7, 1996, in a Chesapeake hospital.
A native of Mobile, Ala., he retired as a United Methodist minister. He was in the South New Jersey United Methodist Conference since 1930 and served 18 churches. He was an active Kiwanian and a member of the Rotary Club, New Jersey. Also he was a noted historian and speaker on Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred W. Duvall; two daughters, Elinor D. Heermans and her husband, the Rev. Jan P. Heermans of Denver, N.C., Carol D. Garrett and her husband, Thomas R. Garrett of Suffolk; a sister, Esther Eden of Pitman, N.J.; a brother, R. Fenton Duvall of Pompano Beach, Fla; two grandchildren, Andrew H. Garrett and Kathleen Howell.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in St. Andrew's United Methodist Church by the Rev. William F. Mahon and the Rev. Joseph G. Savinsky. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, and other times at 2808 Cuttysark Lane, Suffolk. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Association or St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Chesapeake.
