School officials and police were trying to sort out details Monday to determine what happened Friday at a pep rally that turned violent at Nansemond River High School.
At least one student was injured and four were suspended for fighting during the incident - or series of incidents - that occurred near the end of the school day, said Bethanne Bradshaw, school public information officer.
The suspended students would be recommended for expulsion, Bradshaw said.
``We certainly don't condone this type of activity,'' she said. ``Those who cause such disruptions will be brought to justice within the school discipline policy. We want to make sure our schools are safe.''
One student was taken to Obici Hospital, where he was treated for a cut on his head and released, Bradshaw said.
At least three separate skirmishes broke out - two in the gym during the pep rally for the homecoming football game and one at the bus ramp as students were preparing to go home, Bradshaw said. School officials believe the incidents were related, she said. by CNB
