If the article (Sept. 23) listing the 10 top lobbyists backing the Republican Party were not so tragic, it would be humorous. Does it make sense that a prominent cigarette manufacturer should be on top of the list, followed by the American Medical Association? Americans must continue to smoke cigarettes! Addiction to smoking ensures that those in the medical profession will always have job security.
In addition, the concept of seeking endorsement by the Christian Coalition, No. 5, makes about as much sense as jumping out of an airplane holding on to a bag of hot air rather than a parachute. Take a look at the track record of the politicians this organization has backed in the past.
My real concern is the name of the group. I certainly wish they'd delete the word Christian.
