A 31-year-old Virginia Beach woman was listed in critical condition Friday evening after the minivan she was driving collided with a dump truck at around 3:35 p.m.
Beverly M. Gilman was in the intensive care unit of Virginia Beach General Hospital after she sustained a severe head injury. Police said Gilman, of the 500 block of Prince of Wales Drive, was not wearing a seatbelt. She was driving with her 2-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter. The children, who were wearing safety belts, were not injured.
A large Ford dump truck, driven by 40-year-old Joseph A. Wilk of Hampton, was headed northbound on Independence when Gilman turned into his path. Gilman, in her Plymouth Voyager minivan, was traveling southbound on Independence and was turning left onto East Honey Grove Road.
Wilk, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not hurt. Police are still investigating the accident, but a police spokesman said alcohol and speed were not factors.
