Herbert Junior Cantrell, 62, of the 1600 block of Chesapeake Ave., died Oct. 12, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Born in Pike County, Ky., he retired as a mechanic at Newport News Shipyard. Mr. Cantrell was a member of Surry Street Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Hester Creola Cantrell; two daughters, Karen Culbertson, Susan Steinbiser of Portsmouth; two brothers, Linton Cantrell of Wallace, N.C., Earl Cantrell of Winnebow, N.C.; two brothers-in-law, Raleigh Hood of Portsmouth, Lacy Hood of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Norman March. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
