John Joseph Lencmeyer Sr., 76, of the 3300 block of Hornsea Road, passed away Oct. 12, 1996, in his home.
Born in Chicago, Ill., he retired as a chief warrant officer from the U.S. Coast Guard after 31 years service. He was a member of Chief Warrant and Retired Officers Association; West Dade Masonic Lodge (NU)338, Miami, Fla.; Khedive Temple; Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies; Chesapeake Shrine Club; National Sojourners Chapter (NU)424 Heroes; Legions of Honor; and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post (NU)4809. He was an avid golfer, belonging to the Khedive Golf Club and the Hampton Golf Association.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Payne Lencmeyer; two daughters, Deborah Abram of Chesapeake, Nancy Graves of Virginia Beach; a son, John J. Lencmeyer Jr. of Chesapeake; two grandsons, Brannon Abram, Andrew Abram; four granddaughters, Emmy Lencmeyer, Tonya Holman, Tammy Graves, Tasha Graves; and a great-granddaughter, Skylar Holman.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, where Masonic rites will be accorded. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Crippled Childrens Transportation Fund or to Sentara Hospice Program, (NU)8 Koger Center, Norfolk, Va. 23462.
