LUCIUS A. DAUGHERTY JR.

Lucius Adams Daugherty Jr., 79, of the 5300 block of Powhatan Ave., died Sunday, Oct. 13, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.

He was retired as plant manager of Southern States after over 45 years of service. He was born in Portsmouth, and was the son of the late Lucius A. Sr. and Josephine Hubbard Daugherty. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Winters Daugherty.

Mr. Daugherty was a member of Larchmont United Methodist Church, where he had served as the treasurer for the church's weekday preschool for many years. He was a member of the Pioneer Kiwanis Club of Norfolk, where he was recently made ``The 1996 Kiwanis Club Member of the Year,'' an avid contract bridge player, and was a very active volunteer at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Bruce D. Schnable, and her husband, James, and their children, Ben, Matt and Katie of Lincoln, Va., Barbara D. Bowden, and her husband, Ernie, and their son, Ernie III, of Chincoteague, Va.; three sons, Roger A. Daugherty, and his wife, Karen, and their children, Sarah and Amy, of Chesapeake, Robert H. Daugherty, and his wife, Holly, and their children, Alex and Kalyn of Yorktown, Va., Hunter L. Daugherty, and his wife, Leigh, and their children, Emily and Claire of Virginia Beach; and a sister, Lucy D. Clark, of McAllen, Texas.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Larchmont United Methodist Church by Dr. Jerry O. Campbell. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at Cox Funeral Home today from 7 to 8 p.m for visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Larchmont United Methodist Church, 1106 Larchmont Crescent, Norfolk, Va. 23508.
