Landon Godwin, 84, of the 3800 block of Nansemond Parkway, died Oct. 13, 1996, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.
A native of Nansemond County, he was the son of the late Charles and Ethel Reid Godwin. He retired as a rigger for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 31 years of service. Mr. Godwin was a deacon and member of Union Baptist Church, participating in the Sunday School, male chorus, Rose of Sharon Fellowship and as a past choir member. Also he was a member of Mayflower Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ethel Everett Godwin; godchildren, Miss Erika Cowling of Hampton, Mrs. Sandra Everett of Spring Dale, Md., Mrs. Patricia Green of New Carrollton, Md.; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Georgia Pope, Mrs. Thelma Hicks, Mrs. Inez Lassiter, all of Suffolk, Mrs. Dorothy Cohen of Fredericksburg, Va., Mrs. Christine Garrision of Philadelphia, Pa.; brothers-in-law, Joe Everett, Theodore Everett, Timothy Everett, all of Suffolk; several grandnieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Union Baptist Church, Suffolk, by Dr. C.V. Russell. Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Mausoleum. The body will be in the church by 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
