William Percy Daniels, 45, of Manteo, has been convicted of second-degree rape.
Superior Court Judge J. Richard Parker sentenced Daniels to 9 1/2 to 12 years in prison Thursday.
District Attorney Frank Parrish said Parker was previously convicted of assault with intent to commit rape in a 1973 offense in Dare County.
Daniels was charged with raping a 19-year-old Manteo woman May 8. Parrish said the woman, an acquaintance of Daniels, was attacked while in a house occupied by his relatives.
The defendant plans to appeal, Parrish said. by CNB
